Hardscape Construction Foreman
Compensation:
$24-40/hr
Hours:
40 hours/week with optional overtime
Job Overview:
Our landscape construction crews work in small groups, typically in pairs or groups of three. As foreman, you will be responsible for leading a crew to complete projects. Projects include installation of both home and commercial landscapes such as: paver and natural stone patios and walkways, raised patio and step systems, block, snapped stone and boulder retaining walls, fire pits, grading and drainage systems, and trellises and pergolas. Projects vary in scale and scope and span between 2 and 30 days.
Starting in this role you will work side by side with our lead foreman to be trained on projects at Schmidt’s and will transition to leading your own crew.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a crew or crews to complete high quality projects efficiently and within budget.
- Prioritize safety for you and your crew.
- Drive company trucks and trailers to and from customer locations.
- Operate skid steers and mini track machines to load and unload trucks, grade sites, and lift and move pallets.
- Use and operate small machines such as: blowers, compactors, vibratory rollers, table saws, and chopsaws.
- Install patios, walkways, retaining walls, fire pits, and pergolas.
- Interact with customers to keep them informed of project progress.
Work Day and Expectations:
A typical day starts at 7:30 am. Teams review projects, discuss changes, goals and expectations. Crews drive to their work sites in company vehicles and work on their projects.Work days typically end around 6:00. Most work weeks are from Monday through Thursday.
Employees are expected to provide consistent quality results, be reliable, honest, and work well within a team.
Requirements:
- A valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
- Ability to walk, lift, bend, squat, kneel repeatedly throughout the course of a work day
- Ability to tolerate extreme weather, both hot and cold.
- Desire to produce high quality work.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong leadership skills including but not limited to: excellent communication, a calm but motivated demeanor and an encouraging attitude.
- A minimum of 3 years experience laying brick and stone for patios, walkways, driveways as well as retaining wall installation.
- Strong basic math skills.
- Ability to functionally measure grades.
- Operational experience with joystick controlled skid steers, compaction equipment, saws and other related small engine equipment.
Preferences:
- Class A or Class B commercial driving license.

Horticultural Technician

Job Overview:
As a Horticultural Technician for Schmidt Landscape Services, Inc. you’ll work with a team to maintain and enhance home and commercial landscapes by meticulously caring for client’s gardens. This role also includes some installation work such as: creating new plant beds, planting perennials, trees and shrubs, installing edging, mulching, and lawn restoration.
Responsibilities:
- Drive company trucks to and from customer locations.
- Remove and/or spray weeds in customer gardens.
- Prune and hedge shrubs as seasonally appropriate.
- Mulch beds and tree rings.
- Spring and fall clean-up of plant beds.
- Use and operate small machines such as: blowers, string trimmers, chainsaws, edgers, etc.
- Use a blueprint/drawing to install plant beds, perennials, trees, shrubs, edging, and weed control fabric.
- Grade soil around homes to create proper drainage.
- Interact with customers as necessary to keep them informed of work done on their property.

Garden Maintenance Manager
Compensation:
$22-35/hr
Hours:
Full time (40 hours)
Job Overview:
A Maintenance Manager at Schmidt’s is responsible for working with clients to schedule and manage bed maintenance properties. This role works part time in the office – responding to emails and working to schedule staff – and part time in the field, completing maintenance tasks or consulting with clients. An understanding of the landscaping industry, budgeting, scheduling, and customer service are pivotal to success in this position.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and schedule maintenance staff - 3 crews
- Meet with staff each morning to discuss maintenance routes and any notes from customers.
- Consult with clients to determine wants and needs for their properties
- Create and manage bed maintenance contracts.
- Perform part time bed maintenance tasks such as shrub pruning, weeding, spring clean-up, fall clean-up, and plant health management.
- Provide excellent customer service by attentively listening to customers, providing insight as necessary, and asking questions to hone in on customer needs.
Work Day and Expectations:
A typical day starts at 6:45 am with crew arriving between 7:00 and 7:30 am. Each day starts by meeting with maintenance crews and assigning maintenance tasks for the day. Crew leave in company trucks to their respective assignments, returning to Schmidt’s at the end of the day to unload their trucks. Work weeks are Monday-Thursday with 10 hour work days.
Team members are expected to provide consistent quality results, be reliable, honest, and work well within a team.
Requirements:
- A valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
- Ability to walk, lift, bend, squat, kneel repeatedly throughout the course of a work day

- 2-3 years landscaping experience
- Exceptional writing skills: good use of punctuation, spelling, and professional language
- Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and how to calculate percentages
